Huge step from Huawei- Launches Strava integration for smartwatches
Huawei has announced that it will support Strava syncing of workouts via its smartwatches.
The company revealed the new integration alongside its Huawei Watch D and ECG certification at IFA 2022 in Berlin.
The change means that runs, cycles or other workouts using Huawei smartwatches can have the data sync to Strava as well.
It’s a small but significant addition to the Huawei platform, and one that makes its smartwatches more attractive.
While Harmony OS has delivered some excellent performance, we have criticized Huawei for being unable to support third party services.
As runners, we’ve always felt that our workout data was trapped within the Huawei ecosystem. And that, in turn, made it harder to analyse that data the way we wanted.
While Strava is only one platform, it’s certainly one of the most popular – and a great place to collect, compare and analyse workout data.
Huawei has produced some excellent fitness watches in the last year. The Huawei Watch GT 3 has additional training modes for running based workouts, and these also filtered down to the excellent Huawei Watch Fit 2. Both got rave reviews in our extensive testing.
Being able to have workout data live outside of Huawei Health, on dedicated and mature fitness platforms is a big piece of the puzzle for Huawei.
Let’s hope that Harmony OS matures even further with regard to third party services.
The service should be live now – so look for the option to connect in the Huawei Health app.
